Referring
Veterinarians
FlowDog requires all new swimming and physical
therapy clients to have a veterinary referral.
A letter from FlowDog owner, Chris
Cranston
Dear Doctor:
A referral for physical therapy (PT) services for companion
animals is required by law in Massachusetts. The referral form can be downloaded below. It needs to be
completed and signed/dated by a veterinarian before rehabilitation can be initiated. If you agree that PT can
help your patient, simply fill out the referral form and return it to me (fax # 781-209-5721) or the client. I
would be happy to discuss the merits of the case with you and how rehabilitation may be
beneficial.
FlowDog provides cost-effective physical therapy services
to small animals. Our goal is to maximize their quality of life and optimize surgical outcomes, while
simultaneously empowering the owner to do positive interventions when they often feel helpless. Once the
referral is in place, I perform a complete examination and evaluation. I then formulate a PT diagnosis (a list
of the neuromuscular problems) and treatment plan utilizing a variety of therapeutic interventions. I strive to
establish collaborative relationships with veterinarians to ensure the best continuity of care for the
pet.
I am a licensed physical therapist whose lifelong love for
animals drove me to apply my skills and knowledge to small animal rehabilitation in the Boston area. I am a
Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner, a designation I earned in June, 2004 through the University of
Tennessee. I am one of the first 100 individuals in the world to earn this status. I have a Masters of Physical
Therapy (1989) and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology (1987) from the University of Iowa. My 13 years of experience
treating human patients included physical therapy in hospital settings, outpatient orthopedics, and sports
medicine. Prior to founding FlowDog I operated my own mobile practice, Cranston Pet Rehabilitation, and have
worked as a PT at Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital and Sterling Impression Animal Rehabilitation
Center of New England.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need additional
information, and I hope to service many more of your clients in the future.
Sincerely,
Chris Cranston, MPT,
CCRP
